Top O-line prospect says ‘it would mean a lot’ to be drafted by Steelers

The Steelers could add a couple of offensive linemen in the 2024 NFL Draft with needs at center and right tackle.

Meanwhile, one of the top offensive line prospects, Georgia tackle Amarius Mims, revealed how strong his interest is in joining Pittsburgh.

“It would mean a lot,” Mims told reporters. “Just reuniting with the Georgia guys again. Guys like Darnell [Washington], of course, Broderick [Jones] and George [Pickens]. Like I said, we’ve got a bond and it would be great spending however much time I can possible with them. That would be definitely nice.”

The Steelers have dipped into the Georgia pool several times over the past couple of years for Jones, Washington and Pickens. So, it wouldn’t be surprising if they chose to do the same again on April 25.

Pittsburgh currently owns the No. 20 overall pick in this year’s draft while Mims ranks as the No. 22 overall prospect on Pro Football Focus’ big board.

The addition of Mims would also benefit his former Georgia teammate, Jones, who spent his rookie season at right tackle while Dan Moore Jr. was on the left and allowed eight sacks.

If the team is interested in moving Jones back to his primary position of left tackle, drafting Mims, who’s primarily played right tackle, would make a ton of sense.

Plus, the massive 6-foot-7, 340-pound offensive tackle clearly has a ton of upside after allowing just five pressures with zero sacks in 365 total pass block snaps during his time at Georgia, per CBS Sports.

The Steelers haven’t been shy in their interest in Mims either. He is only one of two prospects (Clemson CB Nate Wiggins) who the team has hosted on a pre-draft visit, met formally at the NFL Scouting Combine, attended his pro day and took him out to dinner the previous night.

Only time will tell if Mims will be heading from Georgia to Pittsburgh, but both sides seem very interested in each other with only about two and a half weeks until the draft.
