Pat Zachry, a World Series champion and former NL Rookie of the Year, has died, according to multiple reports.

He was 71.

Zachry was a native of Richmond, Texas. He was selected in the 19th-round of the 1970 MLB Draft by the Cincinnati Reds, and he made his debut with the team in 1976.

The right-handed pitcher was an All-Star in 1978, and helped the Reds win the World Series that season.

He also had stints with the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers before closing out his season in 1985.

Former Reds catcher and Hall of Famer Johnny Bench remembered Zachry on X, formerly Twitter.

“One of the great characters and an unbelievable teammates passed yesterday!” Bench wrote. “(Pat Zachry) was ROY in 1976, had 2 successful starts that postseason and one of the key players in the Tom Seaver trade. Tears have been shed for our friend!”

Zachry finished his career with a 69-67 record and 669 strikeouts to go with a 3.52 ERA.
