BOSTON — Ceddanne Rafaela will play center field for the Red Sox on Friday against the Nationals.
Manager Alex Cora wanted as many right-handed hitters in the lineup as possible against Washington left-handed starter Patrick Corbin (0-3, 6.45 ERA). So Cora has Rafaela, who has made 16 of his past 17 starts at short, in center field and right-handed hitter Romy Gonzalez at shortstop.
First pitch between Boston and Washington is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
Righty Tanner Houck (3-3, 1.99 ERA) will start on the mound for the Red Sox.
Seven of the nine hitters in Boston’s lineup are right-handed, including Rob Refsnyder who will serve as the DH.
