Patriots Have ‘Real Interest’ in Signing Commanders QB Jacoby Brissett, Per Report – Tracker

The Washington Commanders are making moves and noise in their coaching search, and we chronicle it all here!

MAR 5 BRISSETT TO PATS? Washington Commanders quarterback Jacoby Brissett is a free agent this offseason, and a former team of his may look to have him leave the DMV.

According to Boston Globe reporter Ben Volin, the New England Patriots are interested in signing Brissett.

Brissett showed some flashes for the Commanders late in the season, and now he may look to return to the Patriots, where he began his career.

MAR 1 COMMANDERS CUT LENO The Washington Commanders are saying goodbye to one of their veteran tackles.

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Commanders will release tackle Charles Leno Jr.

Leno Jr., 32, has been with the Commanders since 2021. He is set to undergo hip surgery next week.

FEB 24 BIENIEMY HIRED BY UCLA A former member of the Washington Commanders coaching staff has a new job.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, UCLA has hired former assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy to their coaching staff.

Bieniemy will serve in the same role he did in Washington. The move marks a return to UCLA, where he coached running backs from 2003-05.

FEB 15 GAY, BLOUGH ADDED TO STAFF The Washington Commanders continue to build an impressive coaching staff.

The team announced two new hires on Thursday: assistant quarterbacks coach David Blough and assistant defensive backs coach William Gay.

Blough, 28, recently retired after a five-year career with the Detroit Lions and Arizona Cardinals. He has seven starts at quarterback under his belt.

Gay, 39, played 11 seasons in the NFL, 10 of which came with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He helped the team win Super Bowl XLIII.

FEB 14 COMMANDERS HIRE LYNN Dan Quinn continues to add some big names to his coaching staff.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Washington Commanders are hiring Anthony Lynn as their run-game coordinator.

Lynn, 55, was the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers from 2017-20 and has over two decades of NFL experience coaching running backs. For the past two seasons, Lynn has been the assistant head coach for the San Francisco 49ers, who just lost in Super Bowl LVIII to the Kansas City Chiefs.

FEB 11 CHASE YOUNG FALLS SHORT Former Washington Commanders defensive end Chase Young is on top of the football world after his San Francisco 49ers beat the Kansas City Chiefs 22-19 in Super Bowl LVIII.

Young recorded a sack in the first half to help his team to victory.

Now, Young will have to decide in free agency this spring whether or not he will return to the NFC champions.

FEB 11 REDDICK WANTS OUT A rival of the Washington Commanders could be taking a hit with their pass rush.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport is reporting that Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Haason Reddick has requested a trade.

Reddick, 29, has been one of the Eagles’ best defenders over the past two seasons and the Philadelphia defense would take a massive hit if he were to go elsewhere.

FEB 5 SHANAHAN PRAISES COMMANDERS The Washington Commanders have a fan in San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan after they hired Adam Peters as general manager and Dan Quinn as coach.

Shanahan praised Washington’s hires during his press conference to kick off Super Bowl week.

Shanahan’s 49ers face the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl on Sunday in Las Vegas. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET.

FEB 4 COMMANDERS ADD DC The Washington Commanders hired Dan Quinn as their head coach, and now they have a defensive coordinator.

According to NFL insider Steve Wyche, the Commanders are officially hiring Dallas Cowboys assistant Joe Whitt Jr. as their defensive coordinator.

Whitt Jr., 45, has been with Quinn since 2020 with the Falcons and he followed him to the Cowboys in 2021. Now, the pair move to Washington in Whitt Jr.’s highest position yet.

JAN 31 SEAHAWKS HIRE MIKE MACDONALD The Seattle Seahawks are filling their head coaching vacancy today.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Seahawks have hired Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald as head coach after a lengthy decision-making process.

This leaves the Washington Commanders as the only team without a head coach.

JAN 30 BEN JOHNSON STAYS WITH LIONS The Washington Commanders won’t be hiring Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson after he told the team he would remain in his current job for the 2024 season.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the former favorite for the Commanders job “spooked” teams with his asking price and wasn’t the hot candidate that outsiders perceived him as.

With Johnson off Washington’s radar, focus points to Baltimore Ravens coaches Mike Macdonald and Anthony Weaver, as well as Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.

JAN 29 EMINEM VS. BEN JOHNSON The Washington Commanders coaching search is winding down, and it appears Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is a top candidate. However, there’s one person in particular who doesn’t one him to leave … possibly the Lions’ most famous fan, Eminem.

Eminem was interviewed by ePro Team, where he warned Johnson not to leave the Lions, or else there would be consequences.

“Ben Johnson, if you leave us, diss record is coming,” Eminem joked.

Johnson is expected to interview with the Commanders on Tuesday.

JAN 28 COMMANDERS CAN INTERVIEW MACDONALD The Washington Commanders coaching search is now three weeks old, but now they have the chance to interview one of the league’s top coordinators.
