Louis Rees-Zammit video emerges of the moment that’s got people excited

Video has emerged of the Louis Rees-Zammit moment that has got Kansas City Chiefs fans and media excited.

Rees-Zammit can bee seen using his rugby skills as he collects the ball and weaves his way through defenders using his speed and agility. The clip has been shared by the NFL, with the caption: “That’s why they call him Rees Lightning!”

The sight of Rees-Zammit leaving multiple tacklers trailing in his wake has enthused supporters during his first proper week at the Super Bowl champions’ mini camp.

You can watch the moment here.

Jesse Newell from the Kansas City Star wrote: “During the Chiefs rookie minicamp, there was a moment when running back Louis Rees-Zammit broke free.

“Quarterback Chris Oladokun connected with him on a halfback screen, and Rees-Zammit suddenly found himself in a familiar spot, given his rugby background:

“Rees-Zammit accelerated in the middle of the field, evading tacklers more than 40 yards before whistles eventually stopped the play.

“The moment flashed — if everything goes right — the type of skill the 23-year-old former Wales professional rugby player could bring to the Chiefs one day.”

Speaking about this specific moment, the former Gloucester Rugby winger explained: “It was amazing. When there’s open fields, I feel like I’m playing rugby again. I can use my awareness when I am in space, and that’s when I can cause the most damage. So the more I can do that, the more I can help the team.”

The 23-year-old has been learning his role of running back over the past week in Kansas, having previously attended a camp with superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes in Texas.

“It was amazing, all the quarterbacks and receivers were there, we were running routes, we were working in the gym,” said Rees-Zammit.

“It was definitely a great two weeks, I definitely learned a lot with Pat and the other boys.”
