Patrick Mahomes will lead his team into a historic season where they can become the greatest dynasty in NFL history.
Their reign of dominance since the holy trinity of Andy Reid, Travis Kelce, and Mahomes emerged has been unshakable.
The elusive ‘three-peat’ has never been done before but multiple teams have had a shot at achieving it.
Kansas City has become the first franchise to try the ‘three-peat’ since 2005
Moreover, the latest attempt came back in 2005 with the New England Patriots but they fell in the Divisional Round to the Denver Broncos.
This offseason for the franchise has been paramount and they have made the best decisions in the interest of the franchise to put them in with the best chance of another ring.
However, they have inevitably made themselves the franchise to beat in 2024 and teams will be vying for a shot in New Orleans.
The Chiefs’ biggest enemy in recent years has been the Cincinnati Bengals, but specifically with Joe Burrow at quarterback.
Burrow holds a 3-1 record over Patrick Mahomes and has proved to be one of two hurdles in the playoffs.
Patrick Mahomes has only lost to two quarterbacks in his playoff career
Considered G.O.A.T QB Tom Brady and Burrow remain the only two players to beat Mahomes in the playoffs.
Nonetheless, the Bengals signal-caller has battled injuries in every preseason camp and suffered season-ending damages in 2020 and 2023.
The 27-year-old appeared on Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast and said his franchise ‘was built to beat them (Chiefs)’.
Burrow says all the franchises are ‘chasing’ the Chiefs in 2024
The 2021 NFL Comeback Player of the Year spoke to the media on Tuesday and was full of compliments for the Chiefs.
“Their defense was one of the best in the league, they have great players on that side of the ball. And then, obviously, they’ve got Patrick and Travis and their O-line and those playmakers,” Burrow proclaimed.
“They’re the gold standard right now. Everybody’s chasing them — obviously, they’re back-to-back world champs. Somebody’s got to knock them off, I’m hoping it’s us.”
Once again, Burrow is looking to bounce back from an injury that ruptured his season aspirations.
However, the last time he was forced to do that, he guided the Bengals to a victory in the AFC Championship over the Chiefs.
Kansas City will have to worry about multiple teams looking to make the jump and Cincinnati is one of them.
