Kansas City Chiefs fans excited by Louis Rees-Zammit as Travis Kelce impressed

Louis Rees-Zammit has taken part in his first official training camp for Kansas City Chiefs since he signed a three-year deal with the club.

The Welshman was training alongside fellow new boy Xavier Worthy on Saturday, May 4. Worthy recorded the fastest ever 40-yard dash during a combine earlier this year at 4.21 seconds, whilst Rees-Zammit notched up 4.44 at his Pro Day.

23-year-old Rees-Zammit put pen to paper on a multi-year deal worth £2.21m, and has now made a proper start to his new life in American Football on their rookie mini-camp.

Rees-Zammit has been training behind the scenes with his fellow squad members in recent weeks, sharing pictures in the gym with starring quarter-back Patrick Mahomes, but the latest footage shows the Welshman in action for Chiefs on the first day of the pre-season camp.

Footage posted on X shows the former Gloucester Rugby winger making catches and running lines whilst sporting the number nine jersey.

Chiefs fans are very excited about their new signing, taking to the comments to share their thoughts after watching him in action.

One fan said: “He’s gonna be a monster. He seems to have a really strong North-South run style thanks to his Rugby background. He’s gonna be huge this season.”

Another said Rees-Zammit “looks good”, while many were keen to see more of him over the coming weeks.

Amongst the big name picks like Rees-Zammit and Worthy, there was also an abundance of undrafted talent that were vying to impress head coach Andy Reid on the day, ahead of the selection for the 53-man roster in a few months’ time.

One of Rees-Zammit’s new team-mates, Travis Kelce, recently praised the Welshman’s attitude, saying: “I really just enjoy the guy’s energy so far. He’s super excited about the opportunity that he’s been given, knowing that not everybody gets these opportunities.

“He was an absolute star in the European rugby league he was in. So for him to make the jump and try and go from Wales to Kansas City man… it’s a pretty ballsy move and a pretty bold move to be making man.”

Kelce added: ‘The biggest advice I gave him was just try not to let it overwhelm you as much as it can, and know that everybody believes that you have the potential to be able to play. So absorb as much as you can, learn as much as you can in the short time you have before the season.’
