Cardinals Could Add Ex-Blue Jays Hurler To Improve Depth After Being DFA'd

The St. Louis Cardinals have been inconsistent to kick off the 2024 campaign.

St. Louis is 9-9 so far this season and currently is in last place in the National League Central. While this is the case, the Cardinals are just two games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for the top spot in the division.

The Cardinals are loaded with talent, but injuries have depleted the club so far this season. St. Louis has shown flashes of what it could be this season but hasn’t been able to sustain a high level of play yet.

Due to all of the injuries the club already has had this season, it could make some sense to add even more depth. The Cardinals have shown how important it is to have veteran, big-league depth because of all of the injuries and one player who could make some sense for the club is former Toronto Blue Jays hurler Mitch White.

White recently was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays so clubs will have a chance to place a waiver claim on him. If a team were to land him off waivers, they immediately would need to add him to their 40-man roster. If White goes unclaimed, he could enter free agency or head down to the minor leagues.

The veteran righty doesn’t have a big name by any means, but he has played in five big league seasons and could be an option to add more depth for St. Louis. If the Cardinals could land him, he could spend time in the minor leagues and get a call-up if more injuries pop up.

Landing someone like White likely wouldn’t make a massive difference for St. Louis, but he could help.
