Devlin “Duck” Hodges doesn’t post a whole lot on social media about his relationship with Lainey Wilson, but he just couldn’t help himself following the CMT Music Awards on Sunday.

Wilson, one of the biggest stars in country music at the moment, took home yet another honor at the show, winning Female Video of the Year for “Watermelon Moonshine.” She was also nominated for Video of the Year and Collaborative Video of the Year.

And Hodges, a former Pittsburgh Steelers fan favorite quarterback, walked the red carpet with her at the show. He then took to X, formerly Twitter, on Monday to give folks a glimpse into how he was feeling about Wilson’s big night.

“Lainey Wilson is such a badass,” he wrote. “Country as duck and cornbread …. Such a role model for little girls … works her ass off … and I’m always so proud of her and who she is.

“She’s literally the most genuine person I know,” he added. Hell, you can’t help but not like her.”

At least one person pointed out that last sentence was not exactly worded well, but most folks got what Duck was getting at. And the photos of the couple on the red carpet — wearing black cowboy hats and big smiles — suggests the relationship is going well.

Wilson and Hodges have apparently been together since 2021, but didn’t make that information public until “Duck” was by her side at last year’s ACM Awards.

Wilson talked about her relationship last year saying that Hodges had “been around for a while,” and is a “good dude.”

“He knows what it’s like chasing a dream because he’s done that for himself,” she said. “He was in the NFL. He tried out literally for the Steelers and made it and had a really great run with them. Went out to the LA Rams and did that. But I’ll tell you, he is good as good. Supports me, would never come in between anything that I’m trying to do. He’s like, ‘Go get it, girl.’ And I made him wait for a while. I mean … it’s been a little over two years now.”

Wilson said that “Duck,” fits in well with her crowd.

“I mean, he’s buddies with all my buddies,” she said. “He’ll FaceTime me and he’ll be with HARDY or he’ll be with Cole Swindell and all of them. I’m like, ‘Can you please stop taking my friends?’”

The 27-year-old Hodges went undrafted out of Samford in 2019 and signed with the Steelers as a free agent. He was with the team through 2020, making several stars. He signed with the Rams in 2021 and also played with the Canadian Football League’s Ottawa Redblacks in 2021 before calling it career.

He finished his time in the NFL with 1,063 passing yards to go with five touchdowns and eight interceptions.
