Dallas Cowboys Fill Massive Roster Holes In Five-Round NFL.com Mock Draft

The Dallas Cowboys have seemingly been big losers during the free agency period, but have a chance to redeem themselves in this month’s NFL Draft.

FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys have been labeled anything but winners this offseason as the losses pile up with few pieces coming in as replacements.

As we inch closer to the 2024 NFL Draft which kicks off from Detroit on April 25, the Cowboys and owner and general manager Jerry Jones are working diligently to evaluate players that could potentially help Dallas get over the playoff hump.

NFL.com proposed a five-round mock draft that fills some important roster holes.

Round 1, Pick 24: Dallas Cowboys – Jonathan Brooks, RB, Texas Longhorns

“Brooks’ story (and game) reminds me of Todd Gurley, who suffered an ACL injury in November of his final season at Georgia and wound up a top-10 pick the following April. Despite the injury, Gurley carried the ball 1,265 times and caught 218 passes in his first five pro seasons. Dallas could view Brooks as that sort of workhorse because of his combination of power and agility.”

Round 2, Pick 56: Dallas Cowboys – Brandon Coleman, OG, TCU Horned Frogs

Coleman was a three-year starter and was named team captain last season. Draft experts say he’ll be drafted as a guard but could play tackle in an emergency.

Round 3, Pick 87: Dallas Cowboys – Zach Frazier, C, West Virginia Mountaineers

NFL.com thinks Frazier’s short arms might cause problems at the next level, but also says his lower half strength can make up for that at times. He’s projected to be a depth pick but could start if his hand skills improve.

Round 5, Pick 174: Dallas Cowboys – Josh Newton, CB, TCU Horned Frogs

Draft experts say Newton can play inside or outside, giving Mike Zimmer the versatility he likes in corners, and Newton is also good in run support.

Dallas’ 2024 draft picks: The Cowboys hold their origian picks in the first, second, third and seventh rounds. They sent their original fourth-round pick to the Chiefs for a 2023 sixth-rounder, and their 2024 sixth-rounder along with a 2023 fifth-round pick to the Texans for Brandin Cooks.

The Cowboys have two compensatory picks the the fifth and sixth rounds as Dallas gets pick 174 for the departure of Connor McGovern and pick 216 for Dalton Schultz.
