Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has reportedly agreed to slightly restructure his contract, bringing his 2024 cap hit to a still-high $55million.

Prescott, who has been the team’s starter since 2016, earned MVP buzz with his play last regular season before Dallas was ousted in the first round of the playoffs by the Packers.

Now, according to ESPN, Prescott’s $5million roster bonus is being converted into a signing bonus, reducing the passer’s cap hit by $4million.

The reworking of the contract included adding two more voidable years in 2027 and 2028, which pushed Prescott’s salary cap number in 2025 up slightly to $40 million.

The Cowboys can create more salary cap relief with an extension for Prescott, who is coming off a wild-card loss at home to Green Bay that dropped his playoff record to 2-5.

While Jerry Jones has said the club plans to keep Prescott, the team owner and general manager hasn’t struck the same definitive tone he did in 2021 before signing his franchise QB to a club-record $160 million, four-year contract.

The 81-year-old owner of the franchise was asked at the NFL Combine about the possibility of this upcoming season being Prescott’s last in Dallas.

‘No, I don’t fear that,’ Jones told ESPN. ‘Well, because I have gotten my mind on being better than we were last year. And that’s where the focus would be.

‘Every player you got has some time when his contract is up. You would walk around with the shakes if you feared it. You can’t because they all come up. They all can get hurt. They all can lose some talent.’

Dallas police are investigating claims of alleged sexual assault against Prescott

Attorneys Bethel Zehaie (left) and Yoel Zehaie (right) have been sued by Prescott in response

The restructuring comes less than a week after Dallas police confirmed they were investigating claims of alleged sexual assault against the Cowboys quarterback.

The attorney for the woman accusing Prescott vowed to file criminal charges and a lawsuit against the Cowboys quarterback, who had already sued them over an alleged $100million extortion plot in response.

Victoria Baleigh Shores is accusing Prescott of sexually assaulting her in the back of an SUV in 2017 following his rookie season in the NFL.

Prescott has not been charged with any crime in the case.
