The Atlanta Braves have been deemed a suitor for a New York Mets pitcher after Spencer Strider underwent surgery on his UCL.

Braves Deemed Suitors for Mets Starter Amid Spencer Strider’s Injury

The New York Mets have turned things around after a slow start, winning four of their last five games. For the Mets, this was expected to be a season of struggles and for the most part, that’s been the case.

In a loaded National League East, winning the division wouldn’t be easy even if New York made similar moves to what they did in the offseason a season ago. However, winning the division in 2024 might be easier as Atlanta Braves starter Spencer Strider underwent UCL surgery and is out for the remainder of the season.

It’s a huge blow for the Braves and baseball fans in general as the right-hander is arguably the best in the game.

Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report listed needs for 10 different teams, listing a top-of-the-line starting pitcher as the need for Atlanta.

Rymer named four potential suitors, including Jose Quintana of the Mets.

Quintana, 35 years old, has pitched well to start the season, posting a 3.45 ERA in 15 2/3 innings. He dealt with an injury in 2023 that limited him to just 75 2/3 innings pitched but impressed in his limited work, posting a 3.57 ERA.

New York trading someone to the Braves would be surprising, but if the return is what the front office is looking for, it’s certainly a possibility.

Quintana will hit free agency at the end of the season, giving the Mets a reason to want to move the left-hander.

A tough blow for Atlanta, but New York would help them out in this scenario.
