The Green Bay Packers addressed multiple areas of weakness during the 2024 NFL Draft.  Most notably was the offensive line and defense.  Out of their 11 draft picks, 9 were spent on those two areas.  However, the Packers did draft an offensive skill player that is suddenly causing trade rumors to increase.

Sayre Bedinger of Dairyland Express highlighted how running back AJ Dillon may be on the trade block in the very near future:

The Green Bay Packers used a rare exception to keep AJ Dillon around this offseason, a move that might be up there with the most shocking of the offseason overall.

After Green Bay went the uncharacteristic route and signed Josh Jacobs to a big-money deal in free agency, there was hope that they might pair him up with an incumbent Packers running back, but not AJ Dillon.

Fans were hopeful for about 30 minutes that it would be Josh Jacobs and Aaron Jones pairing up this season at Lambeau Field, but it wasn’t to be. The Packers cut Jones, who signed with the Vikings, and found a way to bring back Dillon.

But the way in which the Packers brought back Dillon is very much a “no strings attached” kind of deal. There’s no dead cap to trade Dillon away whatsoever.

After selecting USC running back Marshawn Lloyd with the 88th overall pick in April’s draft, it’s not out of the question that Dillon could be traded to a team that doesn’t like its depth at running back or perhaps just wants to give him a shot this season as one of their top two guys.

At best, it looks like Dillon could be playing third fiddle in Green Bay’s offense. As soon as this team is positive about Lloyd’s role, we could see some movement with Dillon, whether by trade or release.

The Packers Could Have The Steal Of The Draft With RB MarShawn Lloyd

Bleacher Report’s draft profile of Lloyd is exciting to say the least:

Marshawn Lloyd is a bundle of explosive traits who has not yet channeled that into a complete running back profile.

Lloyd plays with serious burst. To and through the line of scrimmage, Lloyd kicks into top gear instantly. He has the speed to break away and finish those runs in the end zone as well. Lloyd not only ripped off a handful of long runs at USC, but he managed to do the same on a few screens in limited opportunities.

Lloyd also has burst and wiggle at the second level. He isn’t as smooth or creative as other backs, but he boasts a raw explosiveness that helps him force missed tackles.

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah said USC running back MarShawn Lloyd was the best running back in the draft when they selected him with a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Asked during his Zoom call, Lloyd agreed that he was the best running back in the draft.

“I thought he was the best back in the draft,” Nagy told Packer Central this week in an interview regarding the NFL-high nine Senior Bowl players the Packers drafted.

“This was going back to really the beginning of the season. When we started watching the USC stuff, it was pretty clear to me. He had a couple of monster games against lesser opponents, but some of the stuff you saw – making people miss, running through contact, the juice at the second level to pull away from people – he’s got it all.”
