Cowboys Sign Veteran RB Royce Freeman to One-Year Deal, per Report

The Dallas Cowboys are fortifying their running backs room with the team’s offseason program getting underway this week.

The Cowboys have agreed to a one-year deal with veteran running back Royce Freeman, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Freeman, who was with the Los Angeles Rams in 2023, will join a backfield that already consists of Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, Malik Davis and Hunter Luepke, none of whom offer significant experience in the pros.

Last year, Freeman featured in 14 games for the Rams, toting the ball 77 times for 319 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Entering his seventh NFL season, Dallas will be Freeman’s fifth NFL home since he was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the third round in 2018 out of Oregon. He’s also spent time with the Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers.

The Cowboys parted ways with Tony Pollard in the offseason, with the 26-year-old agreeing to a three-year deal with the Tennessee Titans, who saw star running back Derrick Henry leave in free agency.

The 521 rushing yards Freeman racked up during his rookie year are the most in any season of his career, but he’ll look to work his way into a significant role in the Cowboys’ inexperienced backfield.
