Joshua Dobbs has signed with the San Francisco 49ers to be their backup quarterback, and he’s excited to work with Brock Purdy and learn from the 24 year old

The San Francisco 49ers have signed Joshua Dobbs as backup quarterback for star player Brock Purdy, taking over from Sam Darnold.
Dobbs, who was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2017, has moved nine times without staying with a team for longer than a year since leaving his first franchise.
Dobbs offers plenty of experience, despite just 14 career starts. His time with different coaches and quarterbacks around the league, and his remarkable ability to adapt quickly to his surroundings and learn the playbook make him an ideal number two.
His journey through the 2023 season saw him go from being the Cleveland Browns’ reserve to the Arizona Cardinals’ main man, then moving on to start for the Minnesota Vikings, all within about three months. Despite the whirlwind, Dobbs says the experience taught him plenty.

Now, turning his focus to is new team in the Bay Area, Dobbs looks forward to experiencing first-hand the incredible story of Purdy despite knowing he will back up the Niners starting QB.
“At the end of the day, he wins football games and he plays efficient football, that’s all you can ask for,” Dobbs shared, via 49ersWebzone.com. “So that’s what I’m most excited about, just being able to obviously provide my perspective on what I’ve learned throughout the league and be able to assume whatever role that looks like this upcoming year.
“But to be around that and that coaching and that type of player and that type of room and that consistency, I think it’d be really good for me. I’m excited to see what I’ll be able to add and help the team with for this upcoming year.”

Although Dobbs is very much QB2 at the Niners, he made it clear before joining the Super Bowl finalists this offseason that he was ready to ‘looking to compete’ for the top spot on any team he joined in 2024.
“First and foremost, I’m blessed for another opportunity in free agency, but I’m looking for a little stability, for sure,” said Dobbs on Afternoon Drive on The Fan. “Last year was a whirlwind in a good way. Like a lot of growth, a lot of opportunity, opportunity to be a week-in and week-out starter and go out and compete each week.”
“But also, there was a lot of instability in those situations. So I’m looking for an opportunity and stability, an opportunity to again go out and compete, compete to play week in and week out. And an opportunity to grow within an organization, wherever that is.”
“I was able to show people I can put my best foot forward in the most inconsistent situation. So to get a consistent situation, a consistent environment to go out and be the best version of myself, that’s what I’m looking for.”
