The Latest Phillies Injury Updates

Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that Bryce Harper is fine after tumbling into a camera well during Saturday’s game against the Atlanta Braves. Sunday was technically a scheduled day off for Harper, “because he hasn’t played much in spring and he falls into the camera well.” Thomson expects him to play Monday against the Cincinnati Reds. It’s unclear if Harper is available to pinch hit off the bench.

  • Orion Kerkering (right forearm strain)
  • Status: 15-day injured list
  • Kerkering threw 14 pitches in a rehab outing with Lehigh Valley on Saturday, March 30. His next outing is scheduled for Tuesday, but if the game gets rained out, Kerkering will fly down to Clearwater to continue his ramp up back from a lengthy battle with the flu in March.

  • Luis Ortiz (left ankle sprain)
  • Status: 15-day injured list
  • Ortiz left the Phillies’ March 30 game with an ankle injury after landing awkwardly on it while trying to field a ground ball in the fifth inning. Thomson said he was limping “pretty good.” He was replaced by Nick Nelson on the 26-man roster.

  • Taijuan Walker (right shoulder impingement)
  • Status: 15-day injured list
  • Walker threw a 30-pitch bullpen session on March 30, according to MLB.com. He initially felt something in his shoulder while playing catch on March 23, three days after his last Grapefruit League outing on March 30 against the Orioles. He’s expected to need a few weeks to ramp back up as a starting pitcher.

  • Dylan Covey (right shoulder strain)
  • Status: 15-day injured list
  • Covey is with the team in Philadelphia, but has yet to throw off the mound, according to MLB.com. He was expected to compete for one of the final spots in the bullpen in spring training.
