Former Houston Astros Legend Suffers Another Injury to Begin Season

It’s been a frustrating season for the Houston Astros thus far as they dropped to 4-11 on the year following a 12-8 loss to their rival Texas Rangers on Friday night.

But perhaps this start isn’t as frustrating as what one of their former franchise legends is going through again to begin his season. Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reported that Carlos Correa suffered another injury that has been diagnosed as a right oblique strain.

The Minnesota Twins are expecting he will require time on the injured list to recover from this issue.

Since Correa departed the Astros ahead of the 2022 season, it’s been a tough go for him at the beginning of each year.

In his debut with his team, he dealt with a finger injury in early May before getting COVID later that month. In 2023, he had a back problem in April that later was coupled with heel and foot injuries. Now, he picked up another knock, this time to his oblique that will cause him to miss some time.

During Correa’s tenure in Houston, he was no stranger to injuries either, having only played 110 games or more in a normal season three out of the six eligible years.

The 2017 World Series champion and former No. 1 overall pick of the franchise was allowed to hit free agency by ownership and the front office after he rejected the qualifying offer that was extended to him.

This is a tough development for Correa as he was putting up a great start to the season with a slash line of .324/.452/.471 and 169 OPS+ through 10 games played.

Outside of the early injuries he’s suffered since joining the Twins, he’s been largely available, having played the third and fourth-most games in a season throughout his career.

How long this oblique strain sidelines him will be seen.
