Chicago Cubs Again Deemed Destination for Best Power Hitter in Baseball

The Chicago Cubs are deemed a top landing spot for the best power hitter in Major League Baseball.

The Chicago Cubs have enjoyed a 4-2 start to the season, scoring at least nine runs in three of the first six games.

Concerns about this offense heading into the year were certainly warranted, and that doesn’t necessarily change because of six games. The Cubs projected to have an average offense on paper, and if things don’t click, could be a below-average unit throughout the season.

For them to change that, Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report believes Chicago is one of the top landing spots for New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso.

There have been rumors about the Cubs having an interest in Alonso for much of the past year. Those statements, given the expectations for the Mets to struggle, will only continue as the season goes on.

A pending free agent, Alonso would be the ideal trade candidate for New York. Chicago has the farm system to interest the Mets, making a possible move for the superstar slugger an even greater possibility.

When at his best, the 29-year-old Alonso is arguably the best power hitter in baseball. In every full season he’s played, he’s bashed at least 37 home runs, including seasons with 53, 40, and 46.

While the Cubs would have to pay him almost instantly, this is one of the players worth the price. Alonso has done nothing but hit at a high level since he entered the big leagues in 2019 and has done so in a tough environment playing in New York City.

If the Mets continue to lose games as they have to start to season, expect Chicago to see if they can land the power-hitting star.
